GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): In order to promote traditional games, a javelin competition was held between four districts including the provincial capital in southern Ghazni province.
Ghazni Sports director Bilal Mujahid told Pajhwok a total of five teams comprising 36 athletes from four districts — Andar, Deh Yek, Waghaz and Giru — participated in the game.
He said the one-day competition was held late Sunday in the sports stadium of Qalati and Zargro deserts in Ghazni City.
Ghazni sports officials and many spectators were present. The spectators said the game was centuries-old and should become a global one.
Ahmad Shah, who was happy to watch the game, told Pajhwok it was a good festival for the people and the youths would know their cultural and historical games.
He said the game should be promoted and its players should be sent to other countries to compete there and bring laurels home.
The Giro district team won first place and Andar district team finished second and Deh Yek district team won third place. Medals and prizes were given to the horse-riders.
