KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) says about 30 new media outlets have started operating in Afghanistan during last two years.
Hayatullah Muhajir Farahi, MoIC deputy spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “After the Islamic Emirate’s return, 25 to 30 different media outlets obtained licenses from the ministry, mostly radio stations and they started broadcasting programs in different provinces of the country.”
According to the Journalists Association of Afghanistan, currently around 80 TV stations, 200 radio stations, nearly 10 news agencies and 14 print media are currently operating in the country.
According to reports, more than 70 TV channels, 100 radio stations and more than 100 news agencies and print media outlets have ceased operating in Afghanistan after the political change two years ago, mostly due to financial problems.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the caretaker government, had earlier told Pajhwok that the importance of media was not hidden from anyone and efforts should be made to strengthen it.
He had said that Islamic Emirate was striving to have good coordination with media outlets, solve their problems and cooperate with them in economic area.
