Beverage exports from Herat on the increase

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Exports of on-alcoholic beverages produced in the Herat industrial city to the US and European countries are on the rise, local officials said on Tuesday.

Ghulam Mahboob Mirzaee, deputy head of the Zulal Maufaq factory, told Pajhwok Afghan News different firms exported their beverages to foreign countries.

Zulal Maufaq exports 50 tonnes of non-alcoholic drinks to the US, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and some other countries on a weekly basis, according to him.

Mirzaee urged the government to draw up a comprehensive plan for providing traders with more facilities.

They had jacked up exports, including energy drinks, in response to growing demand from European countries and the US, he said.

Maulavi Nisar Ahmad Elyas, spokesman for the Herat governor, told Pajhwok the provincial administration was trying its best to provide the necessary facilities for industrialists to promote domestic products.

Supporting manufacturers and traders was a priority for the government, which would not spare any effort in this regard, Elyas added.

Pajhwok tried to approach the provincial Trade and Industry Department for its views, but did not succeed.

Workers of these factories are also happy with being provided opportunities employment by the industrial units.

One of them, Marouf Amini, asked Afghan businessmen abroad to come back and invest in Afghanistan to create more job opportunities for the people.

Abdul Sattar Mohammadi, another worker, also expressed his pleasure over employment opportunities, saying he was supporting his family.

‏Mohammadi also believed businessmen should invest in the country to employ youth and serve the nation. Such investments would help prevent illegal migration, he argued.

The first shipment of pomegranate drinks manufactured by Pamir Cola was recently exported to the US via Pakistan’s Karachi port.
