KABUL (Pajhwok): As part of an ongoing process, traffic lights have been installed in 10 squares in Kabul by the General Directorate of Traffic.

A ceremony marked the start of the drive in the capital with the activation of traffic signals in Ahmad Shah Baba Mena square on September 18.

Abdul Rahim Ahmad, a senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) official said they planned to install traffic lights in 56 squares in big cities across the country.

Ten of these roundabouts and squares are in located in the capital and the installation of traffic signals there will take a month.

Traffic lights in 15 squares currently are active, according to officials. Such lights will be installed this month. Work on replacing traffic signals in other 24 squares was underway, Ahmad added.

The activation of traffic signals in the capital and other major cities of the country would cost around 65 million aghanis, he explained.

Similar signals will be installed and activated in Tahia Maskan, Parwan Se, Puli Surkh, Kabul University, Millie Bus, Arzan Qimat, Sarai Ghazni, Shah Du Shamshira, Sardar Dawood Khan squares.
