JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eight development projects have been completed at a cost of nearly 14 million afghanis in Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Thursday.
Officials say the projects include cleaning of canals, construction of retaining walls and construction and repairing of new sub-roads.
Maulvi Qismatullah Mubariz, Nangarhar rural rehabilitation and development director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the eight projects were completed with financial support of the United Nations Office for Projects Service (UNOPS) in Kot district.
He said the projects were completed in Qasimkhel, Duwani, Bahaikhel, Hindrani, Koz Barakhel, Pinza Chanarona, Widana and Sadat villages.
He added these projects included repair and construction of 3.5 kilometers of roads, construction and cleaning of 11.5km of canals, construction of 1.5km of retaining walls and 96 meters of canals.
About 844 skilled and unskilled workers, all residents of the same district, were employed to work on the projects, Mubariz said.
Tribal elders and youth of the district said the projects were beneficial in terms of development and providing the youth with temporary employment opportunities.
Malik Adrogul, a resident of Koz Barakhel area, told Pajhwok that construction of canals and retaining walls would irrigate agricultural land and protect it from floods.
