AIBAK (Pajhwok): State land measuring nearly 99,000 jirb (49500 acres) has been wrested back from usurpers during the past nine months in northern Samangan province.

A delegation led by Sheikh Abdul Hakim Sharai, acting minister of justice and comprised of acting ministers of urban development, agriculture and representatives of the Supreme Court traveled to Samangan province on Sunday.

Officials say the purpose of the delegation’s trip to Samangan was to investigate the work of the Land Grab Prevention Committee. The delegation emphasized the recovery of grabbed land from usurpers and powerful individuals.

Maulvi Ehsanullah Wasiq, director of the Land Grab Prevention Committee, said nearly 49,500 acres of state land was recovered from usurpers and registered in the  government land bank system during the past nine months in the province.

He said 25,000 acres more state land was identified and would be handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in near future.

He added 11,500 acres more state land in the province was under investigation by the provincial land grab prevention committee, which will be registered in the state land bank system after its identification.

“We ask Samangan officials and all departments to cooperate with this committee in identifying and reclaiming usurped government lands,” he said.

On the other hand, Maulvi Attaullah Omari, acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, who was part of the delegation, said that the committee that was established to prevent usurpation of government lands in Samangan province had been able to play a major role in recovery of government lands.

The delegation also travelled to northeastern Badakhshan on Monday.

The Minister of Justice, who was part of the delegation, said reclaiming usurped state land was not easy, but time-consuming process. He said the entire system should seriously fight against land usurpers.

He asked the provincial Haj and Auqaf department and the Badaskhshan Council of Ulema to create awareness about land grabbing from Islamic point of view.

He said the list of usurped private lands should be given to the committee and courts should evaluate the matter.

Wasiq said the technical committee for prevention of land usurpation in Badakhshan had many achievements in last one year. The committee reclaimed 4,000 acres of usurped land.
