FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): The Telecommunications and Information Technology department says 25 areas in western Farah province are still deprived of telecom services, but efforts are underway to bring them under coverage.
The department head, Abdul Majeed Abuzar, told Pajhwok that according to their survey, telecommunication services are not accessible in 25 regions of the province and at least one or two new towers need to be installed in each district.
He added he had shared the matter with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, which promised to resolve it in the near future.
He added: “Sulaimanabad area in Khaki Safid district, which is 50 kilometers away from Farah city and is inhibited by more than 2,000 people still does not have telecom facilities."
He said recently they activated telecommunication towers in the centers of Gulistan and Parchaman districts as well as Jiji area of Khaki Safid district.
On the other hand, some residents also say people in many areas are deprived of telecommunication services.
They want the government, especially the Ministry of Telecommunications and IT, to solve this problem soon.
Sayed Hashem Agha, a resident of Sulaimanabad village of Khaki Safid district and a tribal elder, said more than 10 villages were without telecommunication services.
He said the villagers had to walk for one or two hours to reach an area where the signals worked.
He said the government should provide them with telecommunication services.
Haji Ghafoor, a resident of Gulistan district center, said that telecommunication services were started for the first time in the district center some time ago, but according to him, still many areas remained deprived of the services.
He said telecom services were important and without them, people faced many problems in their daily life.
He asked the Ministry of Telecommunications to conduct a survey in all areas of Farah and provide people with access to telecommunication services.
Telecommunication services were launched in Afghanistan during the past two decades, but due to the conflict, the services could not be extended to many areas.
