PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Education Department of central Logar province says it has launched three education related reconstruction projects that would cost 20 million afghanis.
Shahpur Arab, the department spokesperson, told Pajhwok the projects included digging deep wells for clean water at 10 schools, installation of solar power for water networks, concrete blocks, hand washing facilities and toilets.
Arab said the projects would enable nearly 400 teachers and more than 30,000 students to have access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.
He also said the projects, funded by the United Nations Children's Fund or UNICEF, will be completed within the next three months at a cost of about 20 million afghanis.
He said the projects were being implemented in Puli-iAlam, the provincial capital, and similar projects would be carried out in districts as well.
Amanullah, a teacher in Pul-i-Alam city, told Pajhwok that students of dozens of schools in the province lacked access to clean drinking water.
He said completion of the projects would resolve the water issue in many schools.
The United Nations Children's Fund has previously built eight clean drinking water networks in Pul-i-Alam, Baraki Barak, Charkh and Kharwar districts, benefitting hundreds of families.
