1,250 youths provided work opportunities in Laghman

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): More than 1200 youth have been hired to clean canals and pave roads in districts of eastern Laghman province, an official said on Thursday.

Maulvi Ghulam Rahman Bilal, refugee affairs head, said the project of cleaning canals and paving roads was launched with financial support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Mehtarlam, Alingar, Qarghi, Alishang and Dawlat Shah districts.

He said 1250 youths worked on the project that would continue for a month and each person was given 150 US dollars per month.

Noor Agha, a resident of Sheikh Sahib area of Alingar district, told Pajhwok that earlier they had to travel to neighboring villages to find work.

Some other laborers made similar comments and urged the government to provide them with permanent employment.
