Prince Mirwais Zahir laid to rest in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Prince Mirwais Zahir, son of Afghanistan’s last king Mohammad Zahir Shah, has been laid to rest in Kabul.

The prince, who died on Friday at the age of 66, was buried on Tapa Maranjan on the eastern outskirts of Kabul on Saturday.

Mustafa Zahir, a grandson of Zahir Shah, described the prince as a gentleman, who loved his homeland and people.

According to TOLOnews, Mirwais Zahir had left Afghanistan for Italy in the wake of the Mohammad Daud Khan-led coup in 1973. In 2002 returned to his homeland along with his father.

In a message on its X handle, IEA’s Political Commission voiced its condolences to Mirwais Zahir’s family.

Ex-president Hamid Karzai visited the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan Hospital to attend Mirwais Zahir’s funeral.
