KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Drives and passengers say reconstruction work on the remaining part of the Kandahar-Spin Boldak road should be resumed that was stopped two and a half years ago.
Mohammad Dawood, a driver, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “A portion of the Boldak road near to our district is still in a dilapidated condition, so our demand is that this portion should be reconstructed because most often cars get stuck and accidents happen.”
Syed Wali, another driver, said some parts of the road had been damaged and it triggered traffic accidents.
“Only a small part of the road remained is unpaved, but it has created many problems for us, this bumpy road prolongs our journey by an hour, cars break down, accidents happen, so it must be rebuilt,” he added.
Sher Hassan Khoshiwal, an official of the Ministry of Public Works in the south, said reconstruction work on the remaining part of the road would be launched soon.
According to him, only seven percent work of the road remains undone and the issue has been shared with the ministry to include it in new plans.
He added: “Only seven percent of this road is left. It has been discussed in the ministry about three months ago between Maulvi Sahib Mulla Baradar and the Minister and there is a plan to start work in the near future.”
