TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Historic Kafir Qala area in central Uruzgan province has been freed from usurpers and houses built there arbitrarily were demolished after a Pajhwok Afghan News report in this regard.

Pajhwok Afghan News published a report about the usurpation of the historical area on Oct 25, 2021.

The historical site is located in Mehrabad area of Tirinkot, the provincial capital. The site is 100 years old.

Maulvi Sharafuddin Sajid, culture and tourism head at the provincial Information and Culture Department, told Pajhwok that some parts of the historical fort had been usurped by people by constructing houses.

He said a joint committee of several departments wrested back the Kafir Qala area from usurpers and demolished houses built arbitrarily on Wednesday morning.

He added the Information and Culture department would also work to protect and restore the historic fort.

He asked the people to stop usurping historical places, otherwise legal action would be taken against them.

He said currently there were 135 historical areas and monuments in Tirinkot and district of Uruzgan and the provincial administration was committed to preserving them.

Meanwhile, Asadullah, a resident of Mehrabad area, told Pajhwok that people had been using many parts of the fort for their own benefit.

He added that some people had built residential houses near the fort and many others used it for agriculture.

Kafir Qala was built on a high and strategic area during the occupation of British India about a century ago.
