HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Turkish Chargé d'affaires Cenk Ünal visited western Herat province and distributed food and non-food packages to hundreds of earthquake-affected families.
Cenk Ünal and Turkish consul general in Herat provided the aid packages to 500 quake-affected families in Zinda Jan district.
The diplomat said his country was committed to providing every kind of support to the earthquake survivors.
Meanwhile, the Turkish consul general in Herat said his country had always stood with Afghan brothers in any situation and they would not leave them alone in this difficult situation.
Maulvi Sharafuddin Muslim, head of the commission for arranging aid to the quake-hit people, said more than 1,000 people were killed and more than 2,000 wounded in the natural disaster and their number might go up.
According to local officials, mobile teams of UNICEF, Red Crescent, UNHCR, and WFO are providing assistance and health services,
Two thousand families are expected to receive food packages from the Turkish government today and tomorrow.
