KABUL (Pajhwok): Work on the construction of the second phase of the Qoush Tapah Canal has kicked off in the presence of high ranking government officials in northern Balkh province.

Officials said the first phase of Qush Tapa Cannal is 108 kilometres long starting from the Kaldar district till Dawlatabad district.

Officials have not yet provided information regarding the development budget for the project.

Abdul Salaam Hanafi, PM’s administrative aide, during the opening ceremony of the canal, said: “Neighbours should have no worry about the construction of this canal. IEA government is committed to the neighbors’ rights on Amo River.”

He also asked the nehbouring countries to respect Afghanistan’s rights.

Acting Defence Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqboub Mujahid, said the implementation of projects that ensure Afghanistan’s development was never harmful for the neighbours.

He said other mega projects were also on the card which will be executed by the government.

Acting Interior Minister Serajuddin Haqqani said: “The current budget did not allow the implementation of such a mega project but government’s strong commitment made this project to be implemented.”

He added mega projects were not specific to a particular portion of the country.

He said the project was being implemented at the cost of 60 billion afs from the national budget.
