PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least seven people have been killed and 15 others wounded in a suicide blast in the capital of northern Baghlan province, police say.
The suicide attack on the Imam Zaman mosque at a mosque in Pul-i-Khumri took place during Friday prayers, police said.
In a statement, the provincial police headquarters said seven worshipers were killed and 15 others injured in the bombing.
It said security forces rushed to the bombing site. So far, no one has been arrested in connection with the attack, it added.
The Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for the blast in a post on the Telegram messaging app.
Meanwhile, a eyewitness who declined to be named told Pajhwok Afghan News dozens of injured people were taken to hospital. Many of them were in critical condition, he said.
The prayer leader of the mosque said they would share soon the exact number of casualties with media representatives.
