2 water supply projects put into service in Uruzgan

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Two drinking water supply projects costing 18 million afghanis have been completed and put into service in Chora district and Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province.

Uruzgan governor Maulvi Ali Jan Ahmad to the projects’ inauguration ceremony that about 6,470 families found access to clean drinking water with completion of the schemes.

He said the projects were implemented in Sarkh Marghab area of Trinkot and Khoshkhy area of Chora district, solving water shortage problem.

The projects were completed with financial support of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and executed by the Kandahar Refugee Organization (KRO).

Nasir Ahmad Ahmadi, director of KRO in Uruzgan, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “These networks consumed 18m afs provided by UNICEF and were implemented by KRO.”

Maulvi Mohammad Ghani Bilal, Uruzgan rural rehabilitation and development director, said the completion of these projects would positively impact economic situation of the people.

He said earlier residents of these areas were suffering from various diseases due to the lack of clean drinking water, but now the people had found access to potable water.

He urged residents of the two areas to cooperate with them in maintenance of these networks.

On the other hand, residents of the areas are happy with completion of the networks and appreciated the aid giving organization.

Ahlulullah, a resident of Sarkh Marghab area, told Pajhwok they were facing shortage of potable water in the past and his family members were suffering from various diseases.

He said there was a need for two more water supply networks in the area because this network cannot meet the need of the village.

He asked the government to build water supply networks for the rest of families of the village.
