KABUL (Pajhwok): Princess India, daughter of King Amanullah Khan and Queen Soraya, has passed away at the age of 94 in Rome, the capital of Italy.

India's death was confirmed by her daughter Surya Malik and ex-Afghan ambassador to France Khalid Ahmad Zakaria in an interview with the BBC.

Soraya Malik wrote on her Facebook page that her mother passed peacefully in Rome on Friday evening, Oct 13, 2023 at around 7:00pm.

According to the BBC, Princess India was the youngest daughter of Shah Amanullah and Queen Soraya.

She was born on January 17, 1929, about five months after her father's abdication, in Bombay, British India. She was named in honour of their exile destination.

Following an invitation from Queen Elena of Italy, the family settled in Rome, where she spent her formative years and remained a resident. She studied at Pension Marie-José in Gstaad, Switzerland, and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
