KABUL (Pajhwok): The acting minister for commerce and industry will visit Beijing to attend China’s Belt and Road Forum next week, reports Reuter.
Commerce Ministry spokesman Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad was quoted as saying Nooruddin Azizi would attend the event.
Azizi will try to woo big investors to Afghanistan, as relations between China and Afghanistan continue to burgeon.
The report called the Belt and Road Forum one of the highest-profile multilateral meetings which the interim Afghan administration has been invited to attend.
Scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, the forum marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s key international infrastructure and energy initiative, aimed at reviving the ancient Silk Road.
The acting minister is expected to hold talks with host officials on plans to construct a road through the Wakhan corridor to provide direct access to China.
On multiple occasions, Taliban officials and ministers have participated in regional meetings on the situation in Afghanistan.
