Afghan football team returns home after qualifying for Asia Cup

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan national football team on Sunday returned to the country after qualifying for the 2024 Asia Cup.

The team was welcomed at a ceremony attended by National Olympic Committee and General Directorate of Sports officials.

The national futsal team returned to the country after winning seven points and first place in the Asian Cup qualifiers.

National Olympic Committee and General Director of Sports head Maulvi Ahmadullah Wasiq said it was not easy to defeat great teams, but the efforts and courage of the national team made everything possible.

He promised to work for strengthening the capacity of athletes to bring laurels home at the world level.

He said the country’s sports administration had recently made good achievements and dedicated the national team’s achievements to the victims of earthquakes in western Herat province.

Addressing the ceremony, Afghanistan Football Federation president Mohammad Yusuf Kargar said the national team’s achievement was historic considering the country’s current situation and international sanctions.
