KABUL (Pajhwok): A temporary camp is being established in the Lalpor district of eastern Nangarhar for newly returning Afghan refugees from Pakistan.
In a statement, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said construction work of the temporary camp for returning Afghan refugees from Pakistan was launched under the direction of the Prime Minister.
According to the source, about 500 families can be accommodated in this camp.
Based on the instructions of the Prime Minister, the camp was being established in Lalpor district for the resettlement and documentation process of the repatriated refugees who are returning to the country through Pakistan, the statement said.
Abdul Rahman Rashid, deputy minister of refugees, said the purpose of the construction of this camp was to provide facilities to the returnees; food and non-food items and medicines would be distributed to them in this shelter.
Earlier in the month, Pakistan ordered all “illegal” Afghan migrants to leave the country by November 1 or be ready for being forcibly deported to their homeland.
The UN says around 3.7 million Afghans, who have fled war, poverty, and economic instability in their country, are currently living in Pakistan. But Islamabad insists the number is much higher.
