MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Construction work on a 1.5 kilometres road, costing 20 million afghanis, has been launched in Balkh district of northern Balkh province, an official said on Sunday.

Qamaruddin Jawad, Balkh district mayor, said the cost of the road will be paid from development budget of the district municipality and the project will take six months to complete.

He said the road was 1,640 meters lengthy and seven meter wide and would cost nearly 20m afs to complete.

Meanwhile, residents of the district are happy with construction of the road.

Ghulam Hazrat, a tribal elder of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News many problems of the people would be solved with construction of this road.

He asked the government to pay attention to the deteriorated condition of some sub-roads in the district because they gave travellers a nightmare.

Balkh district municipality officials say they plan to implement other development projects in the district as well.
