JALALABAD (Pajhwok): About 1,062 families have returned from Pakistan through the Torkham crossing during the past two days, officials in eastern Nangarhar province said on Monday.
Pakistan has ordered all undocumented immigrants to leave the country by November 1, or face mass deportations.
Nangarhar Information and Culture Department head Sediqullah Quraishi told Pajhwok Afghan News more than 1,062 families returned from Pakistan in last two days.
He said: “515 families that have 3,066 members returned on Saturday and 547 families comprising 3,149 individuals returned on Sunday”.
Baz Mohammad Abdul Rahman, Nangarhar refugees and repatriation director, told Pajhwok the returnees would be sent to their native areas after being assisted.
The returning of many families forced the government to send delegations of deputy ministers to Nangarhar twice to assess their situation and arrange temporary shelters for them.
