PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has installed a visa verification system at the zero point in Torkham to contain the illegal entry of Afghan citizens.
The new system would facilitate the entry of Afghans with valid travel documents into Pakistan and curb human trafficking, an official said.
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Yasar Arafat told reporters in Torkham the installation of the visa verification system would enable immigration staff to detect fake travel documents.
Additionally, he added, the system would help accelerate the clearance of genuine travellers and control the risk of entry of suspected individuals.
Arafat said the electronic visa service would significantly reduce the prevalence of fake visas.
Arafat estimated that around 3,000 to 5,000 passengers travelled through the crossing on a daily basis. To prevent delays, additional FIA personnel have been deployed and several counters set up.
