KABUL (Pajhwok): A Turkish NGO-funded mosque on the Wazir Akbar Khan mount in Kabul has been inaugurated, says the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The mosque was built with financial support from IDDEF on the suggestion and advice of the Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
In a statement, the ministry said government officials and IDDEF representatives participated in the inaugural ceremony for the mosque.
It added the mosque had been constructed on 270 square metres of land at a cost of $120,000, with capacity for 350 worshipers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Haqqani said the mosque resembling the Dome of the Rock symbolized the boundless love of Muslims, especially Afghans, for Palestine and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Haqqani condemned the Israeli oppression of Palestinians. He said supporting Muslims was an Islamic obligation.
IDDEF Director General Sheikh Mohammad Turan said the Grand Mosque, the Prophet’s Mosque, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque were of significant value for Muslims.
He announced a new mosque resembling the Dome of the Rock had been inaugurated in Kabul while the Palestinians were rendering great sacrifices to regain their land.
Turan hoped the inauguration of the mosque would lead to the liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque. He said IDDEF was ready to build more mosques and orphanages in Afghanistan.
