KABUL (Pajhwok): Over 308,000 tonnes of goods imported and more than 6,000 tonnes of goods exported and transited through railroad network last month, according to a statement on Monday.
More than 231 tonnes of goods exported and imported through Hairatan, through Aqina 20,000 tonnes and 604 tonnes, through Herat rail network 2,160 tonnes and through Torghondai railroad 54,000 tonnes and 378 tonnes, according to a statement from the Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA).
The source said last month 6,133 tonnes of goods exported and transited to foreign countries through railway network. Majority of these goods were dried fruits and rice.
ARA Spokesperson Abdul Sami Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News imported items included wheat, grains, crude oil, gas and other items which are imported from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and China.
He added, majority of the exported items were raisin sent to Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kirghizstan.
He said transited items --- mainly rice -- exported to the central Asian countries from South Asia.
Durrani said efforts were underway to provide more facilities for businessmen to encourage export.
