MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): About 33 different weapons have been seized during operations by security forces in northern Balkh province, police said on Monday.
Balkh crime branch police chief Atta Mohammad Bilal told Pajhwok Afghan News about 33 different weapons had been confiscated during intelligence-based operations in Marmal, Chaharkand and Zari districts during the past five days.
He said these weapons were kept illegally by some people. He added the weapons included 21 Kalashnikovs, 11 pistols and one machinegun.
Meanwhile, police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said the process of collecting weapons has been started in all areas of the province and efforts were being made to collect all weapons illegal kept by people.
He said the confiscated weapons would be handed over to the Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) program after passing legal phases.
About 200 different weapons have been recovered in the province during the last six months.
