QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): At least 28 people lost their lives and 26 others sustained injuries in 137 traffic accidents during the past seven months in western Badghis province amid complaints about lack of traffic signals on roads.

Abdul Sattar, a resident of Qala-i-Naw city, the provincial capital, criticized the absence of traffic signals in the city and blamed it for increasing accidents and resultant casualties.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Mohsen, another resident, expressed concern about the absence of traffic signals on roads in Qala-i-Naw and the districts.

“Unfortunately, no traffic signs exist in the city and due this reason, we have witnessed many traffic accidents. We ask the government to install traffic signals to prevent accidents.”

Ghulam Mohammad, a taxi driver, also said they faced many problems stemming from the lack of traffic signs. He urged the government to pay attention to what he called the serious problem.

Abdullah Badghisi, an official of the Traffic Department, told Pajhwok that since early this solar year, they recorded 137 traffic accidents.

“As a result of these accidents, 28 people, including four women and seven children lost their lives and 26 others were injured, including women and children,” he added.

He also traffic signals and sings were necessary to ensure smooth flow of traffic and he had shared the issue with province officials and the police headquarters.
