ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A 400-meter long retaining wall is being constructed in Manogi district of eastern Kunar province at a cost of 11 million afghanis.
Kunar public works director Qari Qudratullah Maaz, told Pajhwok the wall was being built by their department to protect the road between Kunar and neighboring Nuristan province from being inundated by river flooding.
He said the retaining wall will be six-meter high and six-meter wide and its construction will be completed in 40 days.
Without giving details, he said the damaged parts of the Kunar-Nuristan road were also being repaired in the area.
Abdul Basir, a resident of Manogi district, was happy about the construction of the retaining wall. He said the people of Nuristan and three districts of Kunar used to travel on the road that- needed reconstruction.
He urged the government and aid agencies to take practical steps for construction of the highway.
