KABUL (Pajhwok): Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) has asked Pakistan and Iran to stop forcibly deporting Afghan refugees for the sake of good neighborliness and avoid policies that give birth to hatred and enmity.
Pakistan had set November 1 the deadline for undocumented Afghan refugees to leave the country or face mass deportations and detention. About 1.4 million undocumented Afghans live in Pakistan.
According to reports, Afghan refugees are being arrested, their houses are demolished and many were forcibly evicted and the crackdown is ongoing.
Acting Defense Minister Maulvi Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid has asked Pakistan to stop ‘ongoing oppression’ of Afghan refugees, measure its consequences and “sow as much as you can reap”.
Acting Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi had informed the representative of the United Nations Secretary General that the Pakistani government was raiding the homes of Afghans to deport them. He said the Afghans were robbed of cash and movable assets and even not allowed to take their animals.
The United Nations and some other international institutions have asked also Pakistan to stop evicting the refugees.
HIA in a statement said two colonial powers invaded Afghanistan during the past half century due to its sensitive strategic location, with a long war ensuing.
The party said Pakistan and Iran offered shelter to Afghans during the Soviet invasion and supported the Afghan resistance because both countries considered the attack on Afghanistan as an attack on them.
But the attack of America and NATO was different and unfortunately the then governments of both countries supported the invaders. If the two neighbors had not supported the US, it would not have attacked Afghanistan and there would not have been eight million Afghan refugees in the world today.
No Afghan and especially refugees thought that their neighbors would help the occupiers and would forcibly expel them one day unprepared for winter , it said.
The statement said if Afghanistan-like situation befell Pakistan and Iran, their only refuge would be Afghanistan.
The HIA asked the two neighboring countries to stop forcibly expelling refugees as soon as possible and solve this and other problems with an understanding with Kabul.
“Are the Islamic countries spineless and their rulers incapable to eliminate the need for visas like European countries and have a common defense agreement against any common enemy and attacker instead of joining hands with each other’s enemies.”
Acting Defense Minister Maulvi Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid has also asked Pakistan to stop ‘ongoing oppression’ of Afghan refugees, measure its consequences and “sow as much as you can reap”.
