KABUL (Pajhwok): Chairman of the former High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah has expressed his concern over the deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan and urged the international community support to deal with the situation.
Earlier, Pakistani government set November 1 as deadline for all undocumented refugees, including Afghans, to leave the country.
Upon the completion of deadline Pakistani government order its security forces to deport Afghan refugees by force.
Since Friday midnight until now 65,872 Afghan refugees had entered the country, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah wrote on his X handle today: “While we express our gratitude to the people and government of Pakistan for hosting of Afghan refugees for a long time, we ask the caretaker government of Pakistan to reconsider the decision about the forcible expulsion of refugees, keeping in mind the spirit of Islam, good neighborliness and international obligations.”
He added: “The mass deportation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan has led to confusion and homelessness of some thousands of people.”
Dr, Abdullah asked the international community, the UN, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and other welfare and humanitarian institutions to reach and help the returnees.
