KABUL (Pajhwok): Based on the prime minister’s order, a committee consisting of lawyers and experts has been formed to defend the rights of Afghan refugees living in foreign countries, an official said on Sunday.
Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) wrote on his X handle that the committee comprised of experts and rights defenders was established to defend the rights of Afghan refugees in foreign countries.
He said the panel was established in compliance with the order of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate, Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, under the supervision of the legislative affairs department of the Ministry of Justice and it would advocate for the rights of Afghan immigrants.
Pakistan had set November 1 the deadline for undocumented Afghan refugees to leave the country or face mass deportations and detention. About 1.4 million undocumented Afghans live in Pakistan.
According to reports, Afghan refugees are being arrested, their houses are demolished and many were forcibly evicted and the crackdown is ongoing.
The United Nations and some other international institutions have asked Pakistan to stop forced deportation of Afghan refugees.
According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, about 56,872 Afghan refugees returned from Pakistan in the past two days.
