Camp being set up in Tirinkot for returnees from Pakistan

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A temporary camp is being established in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, for refugees returning from Pakistan, officials said on Monday.

About 100 families could be accommodated in the camp, Uruzgan Governor Maulvi Mohammad Ali Jan Ahmad told reporters during his visit to the site. About 150 Uruzgan families have been living in the camp temporarily over the last four days.

He said the objective behind establishing the camp was to provide facilities to the returning families. The inmates will be given food and non-food items, as well as medicines.

“The returnees from Pakistan will be living here for the time being. Those who own homes will move there and those without homes will be shifted to rented houses in the provincial capital.” Ahmad explained.

He promised the families would receive long-term assistance, including house rents, for three months.

A joint committee had been formed for the resettlement of the families in different areas. The committee will arrange transportation for the returnees and deal with mattes related to rented houses.

Officials and residents of the province are happy over return of families and promised all possible assistance.

Likewise, the refugees returning to Uruzgan from Pakistan are also happy with the government’s support.

Khaliq Dad, a resident of Chora district who lived in a forest area of ​​Pakistan for six years with his 10-member family, told Pajhwok Afghan New the government in Islamabad had evicted them and they had to leave behind their belongings and animals.

Mohammad Naeem, a resident of Khas Uruzgan district who is living with his family in the camp in Tirinkot, was glad to receive warm welcomed from the government and people.

He acknowledged getting food and other necessary facilities from the authorities.
