Extraction of Ghoryan iron mine worth over $5.5m begins in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The practical work of extracting four blocks of Ghoryan iron mine has started in western Herat province.

Extraction works at the iron mine started during a ceremony held on Thursday.

Maulvi Shahabuddin Delawar, acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, during the opening ceremony said after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, the contracting and extracting of mines accelerated and improved in most parts of the country.

Calling the Ghoryan iron mine decisive, Delawar added this mine contracted at a cost of more than $5.5 billion.

Without providing details of the contracted companies, he said that this mine would be extracted by four domestic companies for 30 years, and would be processed and consumed inside the country.

Meanwhile, Maulvi Noor Ahmad Islam Jar, Governor of Herat, said that peace restored in the country and suitable conditions had been provided for the extraction of mines.

He asked the Afghan investors to create a foundation for the economic growth of the country instead of investing abroad, so that Afghan could also find employment inside the country.
