SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A temporary camp has been established in Sar-i-Pul city, the capital of northern Sar-i-Pul province for Afghan refugees returning from Pakistan.

Deputy governor Damla Mohammad Nader Haqjo, who inaugurated the camp, said that a committee comprising representatives from rural rehabilitation and development, economy, refugees and public health departments had been formed to assist the returnees.

The committee also represented officials of the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) and religious scholars,

He said: “Today we established a temporary camp south area of Sari Pul city and the returnees would be provided with all kind of facilities in this camp.”

He added so far more than 80 refugee families had arrived in the province and they would be shifted to the camp after tents were erected.

Meanwhile, Abdul Ghaffar, provincial Information and Culture director, said a campaign to collect aid for returnees from government departments and other sectors has been started and the aid will be distributed to deserving returnees by the committee.

About 300,000 Afghan refugees have returned to the country from Pakistan since the expiry of the Nov 1, 2023 deadline.
