HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The construction of 60 houses has been initiated for earthquake-affected people in the Zinda Jan district of western Herat province.
The provincial governor and other local officials participated in the inaugural ceremony, the Department of Information and Culture said.
Governor Maulvi Noor Ahmad Islam, addressing the ceremony, commended support from industrialists to victims of the earthquake.
He urged well-off individuals to extend a helping hand to the deserving people, said a statement from the Information Department.
In response, the industrialists promised to help the government in reaching out to the quake-affected people and providing employment opportunities for them.
Earlier, the construction of similar houses for the quake survivors had been launched in the district.
Two months ago, more than 2,500 people, including children and women, lost their lives and thousands were injured in a series of earthquakes in Herat.
