KABUL (Pajhwok): Six persons accused of robbing some businessmen and fuel pump owners of 7.3 million afghanis have been arrested in Kabul, police said on Monday.
Crime branch chief Mufti Abdul Samad Hanafi in a video clip posted on X said: “We received information 20, 25 days ago about the presence of a group of robbers that stool 20,000 afghanis on last Thursday. Some businessmen were going to Kart-e-Naw area and the group sitting in another car stopped them and robbed them”.
He said the businessmen and owners of oil pumps contacted security forces and finally, after two days, the robbers were arrested.
According to him, security forces have recovered a pistol, a Kalashnikov and a car from the detainees.
In the video clip, a businessman says: “It was early morning when I with my brothers were taking about 5.3 million afghanis from our pump to Sarai Shahzada, but we were intercepted by six men laced with Kalashnikovs in Sartpe area of Kari Naw, they snatched the money from us and took two of our people with them, but the two later jumped from the car and fled.”
He added he then informed security forces who were able to the criminals and return the money.
One of the detainee in the clip, who reveals his name as Hamza, says: “We took away two million afghanis from Sarai Shumali and I was arrested by the crime investigation department.”
Another arrested person, Abbas, said he stole 5.3 million afghanis in Karti Naw area and was arrested by security forces two days later.
Four days ago, Kabul Police Headquarters said they had arrested 2,798 people in connection with various crimes during the past six months and recovered 136 weapons, 94 cars and other items from them.
