Households relying on agriculture at risk of explosives hazards

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says more than 13 million items of explosive remnant of war have been cleared in Afghanistan since 1988.

UNOCHA wrote on its X handle: “Afghanistan is the birthplace of humanitarian mine action, with operations established in 1988.”

“Since then, mine action partners have cleared more than 13M items of explosive remnants of war, nearly 764K anti-personnel mines & 33,460 anti-vehicle mines.”

The agency said households relaying on agriculture were particularly at risk of threat posed by explosives hazards. “But mine action is among underfunded sectors in Afghanistan”.
