KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi during a meeting with Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) Otunbayeva has stressed over addressing issues that stopped the progress and development of Afghanistan.
Muttaqi said the war in Afghanistan has ended, so it would be better if the United Nations and the international community encourage and support the achievements of the ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ (IEA) by lifting sanctions and unfreezing Afghanistan’s assets.
He said Afghanistan has the only legitimate and competent address to discuss any international issues, thus it would be efficient for the countries and organizations of the world to interact with Afghanistan through their accepted and official addresses and to create parallel and additional mechanisms.
Separately, UNAMA on its Twitter handle wrote: “SRSG Otunbayeva and DSRSG @PotzelMarkus met with Amir Khan Muttaqi & discussed needs of #Afghan returnees, the Special Coordinator’s report, and the need to ensure women’s & girls’ rights, including their full access to education and work.”
It added: “The SRSG also informed about @UN efforts to assist the returnees as well as promote counter-narcotics and microfinance efforts. Both parties reiterated their commitment to continuous engagement to address people’s dire needs especially ahead of the looming winter.”
