KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) says Turkmenistan is ready to train more Afghan students and to invest in the Afghanistan’s railway sector.
ARA in a statement said ARA director Mullah Bakht Rahman Sharafat met Turkmenistan’s deputy director of railways in Ashgabat.
The ARA delegation, headed by Sharafat, left for Turkmenistan two days ago.
At the Ashgabat meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation between the two countries in the railway sector and increasing the cargo volume and related topics.
Sharafat thanked Turkmenistan for its valuable cooperation and hoped railway cooperation between the two neighboring countries would not remain limited to Aqina and Torghundi ports.
“We should pay more attention and make joint efforts to take an effective part in the process of transferring commercial goods between Central Asia and South Asia”.
He also said Afghan students trained in the railway sector by Turkmenistan were now playing an important and effective role in the maintenance and utilization and development of the railway.
The Turkmen officials said it was important to increase cargo volume via railroad between the two countries and they were trying to do it effectively.
They said Turkmenistan was ready to train more Afghan students in the field of railways and invest in the development of Afghanistan’s railways.
Some railway employees and students had received short-term and long-term technical training in Turkmenistan.
