MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The residents of Mazar-I-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, have complained against the growing disorder, lack of parking places and traffic congestion in the city.
They said parking of vehicles on the roadsides, creation of self-proclaimed bust stops, growing stalls and vendors had added to the disorder in the city.
Fayaz Hameed, one of the local residents, told Pajhwok Afghan News irregular parking and the growing number of Rakshaws caused disorder and traffic congestion in the city.
He said congestion and disorder had expanded. “We cannot evacuate patients to the hospital in time, it also created delay in the discharging of daily activities.”
He asked the government to address this problem.
Ihsanullah, another resident of Mazar-i-Sharif, said there private bus tops on main roads which resulted in traffic congestion and disorder.
He demanded special bus stops for buses halt of double parking.
Syed Zahir Poya expressed similar views and considered public and drives cooperation necessary.
He said drives should refrain from parking vehicles on roadside in order to reduce traffic congestion.
Residents also complained that the lack of waiting places and bus stops contributed to the traffic congestion and asked local officials to take urgent steps for addressing this grave issue.
Mohammad Kazim Tariq, the Mazar-i-Sharif Mayor, acknowledged the problem faced by local people and said bust stops and parking areas had been created in order to address the issue.
Dis order in the city had become a serious issue after several small and big markets without parking had been created in Mazar-i-Sharif and people park their vehicles in front of these markets.
