KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN Security Council will convene for its quarterly briefing on Afghanistan this month, reports a private TV channel.
Citing a UN statement, TOLOnews reported the special representative of the secretary-general and other officials would brief the council.
Besides Roza Otunbayeva; Ambassador José de la Gasca, chair of the 1988 Afghanistan Sanctions Committee; and a representative of civil society will also speak on the occasion.
National Solidarity Movement head Syed Ishaq Gilani asked the world body to take concrete action to benefit Afghanistan, not to keep it reliant on food assistance.
Meetings excluding its representatives would be make no sense, believes the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
IEA spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid has blamed the global fraternity for trying to mount political pressure on the caretaker Afghan government.
He was quoted as saying: “Unfortunately, the world has politicised all humanitarian, climate change and economic issues and wants to use the issues as a political tool...”
