FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A hydropower network has been established on a self-help basis by residents of the Tagab district of northeastern Badakhshan province.

Eng. Farooq Adib, an employee on the project, told Pajhwok Afghan News the network benefitting 1,000 families had been completed in six months at a cost of three million afghanis.

It has the capacity to produce 125 kilowatts of electricity, with 300 families currently consuming this electricity. However, the network has the capacity to supply power for 1,000 families.

Meanwhile, district chief Maulvi Mohammad Sarwar Hakimi expressed happiness with the inauguration of the network and asked the people not to rely on foreign organisations and reconstruct their country themselves.
