KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Cenk Ünal says that Turkish businessmen were interested to invest in Afghanistan’s pomegranates and dried fruits sectors, according to a statement on Wednesday.
On its Twitter handle, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, wrote that the acting Agriculture Minister Mawlavi Attaullah Umari and his Assistant Mawlavi Sadr-i-Azam Usmani held a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan Cenk Ünal.
Both sides discussed join cooperation and sharing agriculture related experiences.
The acting minister asked the Turkish envoy to play the role of a bridge in the area of agriculture development between the two nations.
Umari said: “Due to the past wars and problems, Afghanistan's agriculture remained undeveloped and backward. We request the government of Turkey to cooperate with us in the areas of agricultural experiences exchanges, sending of experts, joint meetings of experts, investment and trade in agricultural and fruit products.”
The ministry’s statement said that Turkish envoy during the meeting assured full support of the people of Turkey and its government.
We admired the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) strong policy against drug trafficking and poppy cultivation, we intend cooperation with the IEA in the area of agriculture and livestock, we will encourage businessmen and investors to come and take advantage of the available opportunities here,” the statement quoted the Turkish envoy as saying.
He said they planned to transfer products with high resistance so that it could be traded there.
Cenk Ünal said: “Turkish businessmen wanted to invest in dried fruits and pomegranate sectors because these products have strong resistance and could not be lost on the way.”
This comes that recently Uzbekistan and Afghanistan inked agreements in the area of agriculture cooperation.
