GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A mother and child clinic has been inaugurated in Gardez city, the capital of southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Wednesday.
Public Health Director Maulvi Khair Mohammad Mansour said the facility consumed 150,000 US dollars provided by the Norwegian Committee for Afghanistan. He said all the doctors and staff of the clinic would be women and the clinic would help reduce mother-child mortality rates.
He asked institutions and international organizations to build more such health centers in other areas of the province.
Terje M. Watterdal, Norwegian Committee country director for Afghanistan, also said that the building for the clinic had been provided by the Public Health Department, but they spent 150,000 US dollars on its reconstruction, equipment and medicines.
He said that the clinic was laced with all necessary equipment and was the first clinic in the country where comprehensive treatment and care was provided to women, mothers and children.
He said they also plan to build more such clinics in Ghazni, Kapisa, Badakhshan and Faryab provinces.
