KABUL (Pajhwok): The US embassy in Baghdad has been struck with rockets in the latest attack on the compound, reports Reuters.
The media outlet quoted a US military official as saying that around seven mortar rounds fell inside the compound on Friday.
Although there was no immediate claim of responsibility, past attack against US forces have been conducted by Iran-linked fighters over American support for Israel raids on Gaza.
The rocket strike caused very minor damage but no injuries, according to The US military official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
As blasts rang out near the embassy early Friday morning, people were asked to take cover. The headquarters of an Iraqi security agency reportedly suffered damage.
“We reiterate that we reserve the right to self-defense and to protect our personnel anywhere in the world,” said a US embassy spokesperson.
He called on the Iraqi government to do all it could to ensure the security of diplomatic and coalition personnel and facilities.
