PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The textile factory in Pul-i-Khumari, the capital of northern Baghlan province, has resumed producing fabrics with reactivation of some machines after a pause lasting 12 years.

The factory was established in 1942 and it became dysfunctional due to the civil war 22 years ago and was finally closed in 1385 solar year (2006).

Adam Khan Bilal, who manages financial and administrative affairs of the factory, told Pajhwok that some machines of the factory had been reactivated and currently fabrics were produced.

He said efforts were underway to reactivate the rest of the machines to make the factory fully functional.

He added: “In order to fully reactivate the factory and produce fabrics, we have hired former retired workers to train newly hired workers on operating the machines so that no need for foreign technical workers arises.”

Abdul Waheed, an employee of the factory, told Pajhwok that he had worked in the factory for 40 years.

He said: “It was disappointing when this factory was closed in 1385. I did not believe that this factory would be reactivated, but since last several months, the factory’s reactivation work has been ongoing fast and now I am sure that it will be fully reactivated.”

He added currently 400 people were working to make the factory functional and once all machines were readied, thousands of people would be employed.

Meanwhile, Hayatullah, a new employee of the factory, told Pajhwok that he has been working in the factory against 300 afghanis a day since last four months.

He added he was happy with his job.

The reactivation work of the factory was started on September 2, 2023 and currently some machines have been reactivated.
