KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Food and Drug Administration (NFDA) on Wednesday asked people and doctors to prioritize using domestically produced medicines in order to support the local industry.

NFDA officials made the call at the inauguration ceremony of “Asia Noor Medicine Factory” in the presence of a number of government officials in Karizmer district of Kabul.

According to officials, four million US dollars have been invested in the construction of the first phase of the pharmaceutical plant which has the capacity to produce 68 types of medicines.

Ziauddin Mayar Wardak, the plant owner, said that 360 people were working in the factory and assured that all standards had been taken into account in its establishment.

But he called the smuggling of foreign drugs into the country a major challenge to domestic sales and asked the government to prevent illegal import of foreign drugs

Dr. Abdulbari Omar, NFDA head, said they were striving to provide more facilities for investors.

He said the smuggling of foreign medicines into the country had been curbed to a great extent and assured that it would be completely prevented.

He asked the people and doctors to give priority to medicines produced in the country in order to support domestic production.

Maulvi Noorulhaq Anwar, director of Administrative Affairs Office, said that in the past corruption marred investment competition, but now a healthy competition had been created among investors.

He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate’s policy was to fight corruption and they will work until corruption was completely eradicated from the country.
