JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Citrus and other fruits orchards would be cultivated on 150 acres of land in 10 districts of eastern Nangarhar province with the support of Peace Foundation.
Ajmal Subhani, spokesperson for the Agriculture and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News these orchards would be planted by the Peace Foundation to promote agriculture under the Rural Agriculture Development Scheme.
The project will be implemented in the Sra Road, Chaparhar, Sherzad, Khogyani, Rodat, Kot, Achin, Momandara, Lalpur and Dar-i-Noor districts.
He said: “Citrus, palms, pear, apples and other fruits orchards would be cultivated in these orchards.”
Subhani said these orchards would be set up for people who have interest in cultivation.
Dense gardens are gardens where up to 600 plants are planted in one acre of land, that is, how many plants are planted on 10 acres of land in a normal garden, they can be planted in one acre of a dense garden and it gives a lot of yield.
According to the Agriculture Department, the Peace Foundation In addition to horticulture, they also help farmers in the construction of greenhouses, horticulture kits, improved seeds, chemical fertilizers and agricultural equipment.
Abdul Salaam, one of the farmers in Nangarhar, said in the past also some organisations planted orchards for the farmers which dried up in a short time.
“Our demand is that assistance should be provided to the deserving person, farmers who are interested in farming should be assisted in the plantation of orchards,” he said.
Subhani, however, assured the orchards are planted for deserving individuals who meet the criteria.
Gardens will be built for farmers who have their own agricultural and suitable land for building a garden and water to irrigate it.
