PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has accepted an invitation from the interim Afghan government to visit Kabul.

Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Sardar Ahmad Jan Shakib delivered the IEA invitation to the JUI-F head at a meeting in Islamabad on Saturday.

At the meeting, the rightwing Pakistani party said in a statement, the need for peace in the region and improved relations between Kabul and Islamabad came up for discussion.

Shakib arrived at Rahman’s residence in Islamabad and gave him a ‘special message’ from the caretaker Afghan government.

JUI-F spokesman Aslam Ghauri said the meeting focused on Pakistan-Afghanistan ties and the security situation in the region.

Meanwhile, Dawn quoted insiders as saying the letter delivered by the ambassador also highlighted Kabul’s efforts to combat terror networks on Afghanistan’s soil.

Ex-lawmaker Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi was also present on the occasion. Both sides called for improved relations between the neighbours in the interest of peace in the region.
