Japan gives Afghanistan $7m to fight infectious diseases

KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan has provided nearly seven million dollars to help reduce deaths from infectious disease and improve the capacity of Antani hospital in Kabul.

In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Japanese ambassador and World Health Organization (WHO) in Kabul on Sunday.

The aid was expected to be provided over a period of one year was aimed at preventing deaths from infectious diseases and strengthening the capacities of Antani and Afghan-Japan hospitals, said Takayoshi Kurumiya, the ambassador of Japan.

According to him, in the coming year, those suffering from infectious diseases such as measles, corona, Congo and respiratory infectious will be treated in these two hospitals.

Dr Luo Dapeng, WHO country director in Afghanistan, said with this help, 76,000 people suffering from communicable diseases will be treated.
